open Bible.jpg  The next Bible study methods class for men will be 5 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Perryville, MD. Even if you do not come to the study, you can learn and practice this method to grow and stay fresh in your study. Men can come without doing the assignment and still learn. But you will learn more if you take the time to study and practice this method. The assignment for next class is to practice the subject search (biblical theology) method of Bible study. This teaches you how to develop a biblical theology.

Subject search is good for variety and giving scriptural foundation to doctrinal teaching. It helps develop sensitivity to each word and concept. It works well in passages that are heavily doctrinal. Read I Corinthians 1:18-31.

1. Pretend the passage we are studying is the only information we have on biblical theology.

2. Write down on the left side of a page or screen a list of subjects that you will look for in the study: Bible, God, God the Father, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Salvation, Christian life, ministry, sin, man, and future things.

3. Read the passage through carefully once for each subject. On your paper or screen, to the right of the subject write what you learn from this passage (and only from this passage) about the subject.

4. Write a personal application (because of what I know about the subject, how should I change or be different) relating to each subject.

The training and discussion will be led by Dr. John Gauger. The First Baptist Church is located in Cecil County, on Route 40, 1 1/2 miles east of Route 222. The church is across Route 40 from the Principio Health Center.

The Bible study will be held at the church in the back classroom on the second floor. Easiest access is to drive around the building to the back parking lot. Use the back door. The main entrance will also be open. Bring your Bible, a pen or pencil, and your notes or paper to take down what you learn. Dress is casual. The study will last about an hour, but the pastor will stay longer for any with additional questions.
