Men’s Bible Study Methods

bible18.jpg The next meeting of the men’s class on Bible study methods will be 7 AM, Saturday, April 19. We will continue learning various methods of
Bible study to better understand God’s Word. The assignment for the next class is to again practice the paraphrase method of Bible study. This time the pastor will be part of the discussion. Even if you do not come to the study, you can learn and practice this method to grow and stay fresh in your study. Men can come without doing the assignment and still learn. But you will learn more if you take the time to study and practice this method.

Here is the assignment:

PARAPHRASE

1. Study the verse to learn its meaning. Some verses will require research to understand the terms or the intent. Then paraphrase each verse so it lives for you (expand, explain, show implications, personalize if appropriate). If the meaning of a verse eludes you, give it your best guess or move on. Leave a question mark by it so you can remember to listen to how others figured it out.
2. In as few or many words as you like, rewrite the paragraph in your own words (a paraphrase).
3. Write down a title and a succinct summary sentence for the paragraph you rewrote.
4. Write down one or more definite, specific, personal applications “I will . . .”
You will only share them if you wish. Personal may be private.
4. OPTIONAL- Choose one verse to memorize and share its meaning with a friend.

Do the above for the following section of scripture: I Corinthians 10: 23-33.
The class lasts around an hour. The pastor will stay to answer questions.

We meet at the First Baptist Church of Perryville, MD. First Baptist Church is located in Cecil County on Route 40, 1 1/2 miles east of Route 222. We are on the south side of Route 40 almost across the road from the Principio Health Clinic under construction. The easiest place to enter the building is from the back parking lot behind the church building.
