bible18.jpg The next Bible study methods class for men will be 7 AM, Saturday, September 29 at the First Baptist Church of Perryville, MD. We continue to study various methods of studying the Bible so we may better understand God’s Word.To learn more about studying the Bible, the assignment for next class is to use the Personality Penetration method of Bible study. This method is very good for use in the gospels and parables. It is a good basis for discussion since everyone can at least describe the characters.

Even if you do not come to the study, you can learn and practice this method to grow and stay fresh in your study. Men can come without doing the assignment and still learn. But you will learn more if you take the time to study and practice this method.

Here is the assignment:

Study Philippian 2: 25-30 looking at the person, Epaphroditus.

1. List the key events in the story.

2. Describe each main character in every way possible: appearance, attitude, social status, spirituality, emotionally…

3. From each character write down truths, positive or negative, that are demonstrated by this person.

4. Write specific personal applications of how things should change for you because of the truths you wrote down.

5. Express the main idea of the story you are studying in one sentence with a:

a. subject: Answer the question: What is this story talking about?

b. complement: Answer the question: What does this story say about the subject?

For example: Matthew 4: 1-11

Subject: What is it talking about? Resisting Satan’s temptation

Complement: What does it tell us about the subject? It is resisted by knowing and obeying God’s Word.

Main idea in a sentence with a subject and complement: Satan’s temptation is resisted by knowing and obeying God’s Word.

You will grow in your ability to study and learn much more by trying. Give it a try and see what you come up with.

The training and discussion will be led by Dr. Gauger at the First Baptist Church of Perryville, MD. The First Baptist Church is located in Cecil County, on Route 40, 1 1/2 miles east of Route 222. The Bible study will be held in the back classroom on the second floor. Park near the back door or use the main entrance.
