Golden Compass

The_Golden_Compass post.jpg It is sad to see a studio investing major money to interest children in an author who writes from an atheistic world view hoping to fight Christianity.

On the one hand we can be thankful that the studio softened the message in the first movie of the series fearing the public would not support the most blatant attacks on God, churches, and Christianity.

On the other hand the movie, if successful, encourages the industry to consider pressing the envelope further. And it could assist in creating a great need among children to read his books which are not the least veiled in their attacks.

I believe we should encourage adults to seriously investigate the veracity of any truth claims, whether from the church or from a children’s author. But a slick presentation meant to reach children by video, even though it is toned down, is an entirely different matter. The author was quoted as saying, “My books are about killing God.” I do not believe his movie made to reach children deserves our support or our dollars.

If you received an email about the movie that is circulating among many, and wonder how much is actually true, you might want to click on: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp It is a good place to go to determine if an email is a hoax or is accurate.
