APOLOGETICS: Why baptized lions & talking crosses didn’t make it into your Bible

Timothy Paul Jones LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) — From the first century forward, Christians viewed testimony that could be connected to eyewitnesses of Jesus as uniquely authoritative. The logic of this standard was simple: The people most likely to know the truth about Jesus were either eyewitnesses who had encountered Jesus personally or close associates of these witnesses.

Point of View: Jim Tatum: God’s Clothier of Preachers

by PAIGE PATTERSON FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Paul’s underappreciated tribute to Onesiphorus in II Timothy 1:16-18 suggested itself afresh to my mind today when I read here in Spain of the home going of my precious friend, Jim Tatum. Paul said of Onesiphorus that he “often refreshed him,” and that he was not ashamed of Paul’s dependent circumstances. Further, he sought Paul out to assist him and “you know very well how many ways he ministered to me.” Had Paul known Jim Tatum, his judgment would have had the same ring, as hundreds of preachers will attest.

“The Conscience of Society”—Charles Colson (1931 – 2012)

After he was released from prison for his role in the Watergate cover-up, Charles Colson became one of the leading evangelical thinkers in America. Colson calls the Church to engage with the culture, bringing the truths of God’s Word into the public arena. In this excerpt from his book How Now Shall We Live?, Colson encourages Christian leaders never to lower their prophetic voices. After all, when the Church holds out the words of the Bible, she does not speak for one mere sector of the electorate; ultimately, she speaks for God.

Is Homosexuality Like Left-Handedness?

The recent excitement over Chick-Fil-A brought forth the familiar claim that being homosexual is like being left-handed.1 Both are morally neutral (so the story goes), a matter of simply being “born that way.” If you toss a ball to a kid and he automatically fields it with his left hand, as do about 10% of the children on earth, what’s the difference?
