  Assuming office in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was America’s 32nd president and the nation’s longest-serving chief executive, with over 12 years in office. His first great challenge was the Great Depression; his second, World War II.

  Hollywood is not generally attentive to the clergy, and when it is, the results are usually unfortunate. Now and then, an appreciative treatment appears, something along the lines of the 1938 film about Father Flanagan’s Boys Town and the 1955 treatment of A Man Called Peter. But most believers brace themselves for another serving of the unsavory Elmer Gantry (1960), of the vindictive “Reverend Jeremiah Brown” in Inherit the Wind (1960), or of the unspeakably evil Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy (1980).
