Welcome to First Baptist Church! My name is Brian Dempsey, and I have the joy of serving as Pastor and Elder here at FBC.
I was raised in a Christian home and at a young age repented of my sins and trusted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In high school, God began to stir in my heart a desire for full-time ministry. Initially believing that He was leading me to train national pastors overseas, I enrolled at Northland Baptist Bible College in 1999 as a Missions Major.
While working at Northland Camp and Conference Center during the Summer of 2000, I met my future wife, Karen. We got married in 2003. From Wisconsin, God moved us to Lansdale, PA, to attend seminary at Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary. There, I received my Master of Divinity, while Karen received her Master of Theological Studies.
During our time in seminary, God placed in our lives an incredible couple. Jim and Kathy Spears would play a major role in our spiritual development as individuals and as a couple. Pastor Spears mentored me and allowed me to grow as a young pastor, and Kathy demonstrated for Karen what a picture of grace was in the midst of the challenges of life. It was during these years that God softened my heart toward pastoral ministry in the US. In 2010, with our church’s blessing, I began to seek my first senior pastoral role.
God led us to Dillsboro, Indiana, where we spent six years at Washington Baptist Church before moving to Perryville, and the incredible people of First Baptist.
Along the way, we added three wonderful little ones: Ian, Olivia, and Carson. They are gifts of grace to Karen and me, and we cherish the time that we get with them.
I want to welcome you to FBC. I am passionate about the faithful preaching and teaching of the Word of God. When you come to FBC, you will find a church anchored in faithful exposition and application of the Scriptures. You will find a church excited about missions and evangelism, seeking to win the lost around the world, and also in our own backyard. You will find a church that is far more than “just” a church- you will find a family. We aren’t perfect, but this is a place where you will be loved and welcomed. It is also a place where your soul will be fed.
