Greetings! My name is Chris Moyer and I serve at First Baptist Church of Perryville as the associate pastor. I am thrilled that you are taking time to visit our church’s website and pray that you will be encouraged by what you find.
I would like to take a little time to introduce myself to you. Prior to joining First Baptist as associate pastor in January 2008, I worked as a professional Christian counselor with Safe Harbor Christian Counseling in Cecil and Harford counties. While at Safe Harbor, I had the pleasure of counseling individuals of all ages, couples and families. In my work as a counselor I saw that true change can only be accomplished by the work of the Holy Spirit, because He alone has the power to change our hearts.
I married my college sweetheart Laura (pictured with me below) in February 2003.
We met as freshmen at Philadelphia Biblical University where we each were pursuing undergraduate degrees in Bible which we completed in December of 2002. We remained at PBU after finishing our undergraduate studies in order to complete graduate degrees in Christian counseling. Laura and I finished our master’s degrees in May 2007 after spending four long but very valuable years studying. During our time in graduate school we both worked at PBU. I worked in the admissions department as the enrollment counselor for international students, while Laura worked in the registrar’s office as the credential specialist. We share a love for God’s Word and ministering to people. We also enjoy traveling, going to the beach and spending quality time with family and friends. Other activities that I enjoy during my spare time are playing racquetball, hiking, skiing, watching my nephews and playing all kinds of sports (soccer, ping-pong, softball, basketball…). We are so very thankful for God’s gift of our daughter, Sophia Joy. Being her parents causes us to trust God even more.
I had the unique opportunity to spend most of my childhood in France and Germany as a missionary kid. My parents continue to minister in France, in the town of Saint Etienne where they work as church planters. My experience growing up overseas and watching my parents serve the Lord showed me the impact of international missions. As a senior in high school I went on a mission trip of my own to the country of Croatia and it was during that time that the Lord impressed upon my heart to dedicate my life to serving Him full-time. Since dedicating my life to ministry I have worked as a volunteer youth leader, led several small groups, taught a Sunday school class for young adults, and, as mentioned earlier, I have also worked as a Christian counselor. I now have the distinct privilege of serving here at First Baptist Church as associate pastor.
My hope and prayer as associate pastor is to help our church, “prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13). I hope to accomplish this by God’s grace through teaching the Word of God and through building relationships with the people in our church and community.
My friend, whether we realize it or not we all are in dire need of God. We all long for relationship with Him, however many of us try to fill our longing for God by seeking other things, things that will ultimately disappoint. Are you tired and weary from trying to fill your desires through your job, your wealth, your relationships or other things and still feeling empty? Come and join us in pursuing that for which we were created, to have an intimate relationship with God and to give Him glory and honor. Here at First Baptist of Perryville, we are a group of imperfect and suffering people just as you will find anywhere else in the world. The difference is that we are learning how to use our imperfection and our suffering to help us learn more about our God and how we can become more like Him. We invite you to join us in this pursuit!
I would love to get to know you personally and hear about your life. You can meet me at our church before or after our weekly services, or you can email me at: email@example.com
May God bless you mightily,
