Oprah’s New Age Gospel

by Penna Dexter Penna.jpg
DALLAS (BP)–A recent Washington Post column has blogosphere feminists a little upset.

Charlotte Allen’s “Women vs. Women” column March 2 was a tongue-in-cheek diatribe about how dumb women can be. Since I am a woman, I should be insulted. I am not, however, because — beneath the insults — there are some gems of truth and wisdom dealing with rising above feminist dogma and using our God-given gifts, including our brains. (more…)

Testimony of an Iranian Martyr

dibaj.jpg The following paragraphs were excerpted from the testimony of Mehdi Dibaj. He was an Iranian convert to Christianity who endured 9 years in prison for the charge of being an apostate. He ended up dying for his faith.

In jail, Mehdi Dibaj endured 2 solid years of solitary confinement, suffered repeated beatings and mock executions. His wife even divorced him and renounced the Christian faith upon being threatened with stoning. Yet in the face of such hardship, while still in prison he wrote these words. (more…)

A New Sexual Revolution at Princeton University

anscombe.jpg

“Make love, not war.” Perhaps no phrase better defines the American sexual revolution of the 1960s. The promise of the sexual revolution was pleasure freed from the constraints of traditional morality. Ideas of abstinence and marital fidelity were seen as obstacles to achieving the greatest sexual pleasure and personal fulfillment. As one author summarizes a popular book of the period,

If individuals took a rational view of sex, there would be no more jealousy, no more monogamy, no more shame—all products of Judeo-Christianity’s superstitious anti-sex agenda. . . . In fact, by eliminating shame and self-loathing, sexual rationalism would solve virtually all of society’s remaining problems.1

Today a new sexual revolution is underway. (more…)

Faith Is Not Blind

galaxy.jpg

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Hebrews 11:3 (NIV)

St. Augustine said famously, “Seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand.”1 No better application of that principle can be found than in the realms of cosmology and anthropology. If one rejects God, one rejects the ability to see the true origin of nature, including man. (more…)

“Husbands, Gentleness and Love Are the Foundations of a Strong Marriage”

John Chrysostom.jpg —John Chrysostom (c. 349 - 407)

John the “Golden-mouth” (Chrysostom) was known as an eloquent and insightful preacher who was greatly loved by his congregations in Antioch. When he became Bishop of Constantinople, the new capital of the Roman Empire, in 398 A.D., John used his position to encourage godly behavior by Christians, not least in their marriages. In an exposition of Genesis 16:1ff, he counsels husbands to show gentleness and unselfish love towards their wives and thus bring peace to the household. Such a marriage, based on mutual respect and Christian devotion, glorifies God and as a result will be “stronger than steel,” able to withstand the storms of life. (more…)
